Like most of you, I am busy! I work full time. I try to get to the gym daily (doesn’t always happen). In my marriage, I am the one doing most of the cooking. Then there is running this blog. It all ads up and there just aren’t enough hours in the day. Many of you have way more on your plate than I do and I have no clue how you do it?!
I absolutely love blogging tools that make my life easier and Tailwind is my new best friend in that department. I use it to schedule all my Pinterest pins. I’ve not only seen tremendous growth in traffic, but also my affiliate sales. As bloggers those affiliate sales are pretty important to help maintain our blogs.
First, lets take a look at the numbers. It’s hard in the blogging world not to get stuck on numbers and play the compare game. Many companies won’t work with you unless you have a certain number of followers. In all my years of blogging, I’ve learned that quality over quantity is so important in the blogging world. Especially with how many people can buy followers nowadays. You can buy 10,000 followers, but if they don’t translate into genuine engagement, traffic, or sales, how do you benefit from that? You don’t. Being genuine is key if you want to attract genuine followers.
If you are familiar with Pinterest you know that it operates as a search engine. It’s not what we are normally used to in terms of social media accounts. Your number of followers do not translate to your reach and that’s really important to remember. For instance, I only have 296 followers on Pinterest. Doesn’t seem like a lot, right? Now take a look at my reach. Right now, I get 122,300 monthly views. Pretty big difference.
What about those affiliate sales? I started using Tailwind at the end of October. I saw a huge surge in my affiliate sales. Here is a look at sales from August 1, 2017 to January 9, 2018. You can see how much growth in sales there has been for November and December, with January shaping out to be a good month too. You can also see from the sources that quite a bit of traffic is coming from Pinterest.
FREE TAILWIND TRIAL
Now that I’ve gone over my personal numbers, let’s take a look at exactly how Tailwind works and why it has helped to skyrocket my stats. First, Tailwind offers one free month. Your first 100 pins are completely free. While 100 pins won’t drastically change your stats, it will allow you to get familiar with the app and test it out.
SETTING YOUR SCHEDULE
When you first sign up for Tailwind, they give recommendations on the best times to schedule your pins based on your account performance. This is the best place to start. Go with their suggestions and as they collect data over time, they will recommend more time slots for you to add.
CREATING BOARD LISTS
Before you start pinning, it is helpful to create board lists. If you are part of group boards, like I am, it will save so much time if you put them all together in one list. Then when you are sharing new content from your blog, you can easily select this list for your content to be shared.
Tribes is the newest feature of Tailwind and a great way to share your content! The key is finding quality tribes. There are so many out there and pretty much a tribe for anything you can think of. Each tribe has a set of rules and it is important to be sure to look at those so you don’t get kicked out. To get a visual on the value of tribes, here is a look at the overview of a tribe I am currently in. My pins have been re-shared 21 times by other members in the group with a reach of 195.2K. That’s crazy!
SCHEDULING YOUR FIRST PIN
Now that you are set up for success, it’s time to schedule your first pin. There are a couple ways you can do this. First, you want to install the Chrome extension. It’s the easiest and most convenient way to schedule a pin. This way no matter where you are browsing on the internet (your blog, another blog, Pinterest, etc.) you can click that Tailwind logo in your browser and easily schedule the post. Or, you can manually scheduled with the “Create New Pin” option.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
The only way Tailwind will work for you is you set up pins in your queue. This way when you are busy doing other tasks, at work, or even sleeping, the program is doing all the work for you. I set aside about 2-3 hours at the beginning of each week and I will fill up my queue for the week. As I post a new blog throughout the week, I will add strategically add those to the queue I’ve already created, group board, and the tribes.
